If you are running your first triathlon you are probably excited to get started. You are thinking about what a great finishing time you will have and it makes you want to push yourself to your limits. However, if you are going to embark on something that is really going to make you have to give it everything you have you are going to need to be safe.
For starters you need to see a doctor before performing any sort of fitness training program. The training for a tri can be very tough on your body and the last thing you want to do is cause more harm than help with your training. They can let you know if there is anything you need to be concerned about and how you can compensate for things that might impede your progress.
Another thing you might want to do is get yourself into a basic eating routine for race day. Your swim will be the first event and it’s the very last place you can allow yourself to start cramping up. For you there must be a happy medium. You must eat enough to fuel you but not enough to put you out of commission. So make sure you get into a habit of having a high protein morning breakfast and something that will sit well with you in the water.
You are going to be happy you did a triathlon, but only if you prep yourself the right way. Don’t make the mistake of letting your enthusiasm be your downfall.
